Coimbra

Traditional university town (one of the oldest universities in Europe) between Lisbon and Porto on the right bank on the river Mondego.

As the third largest city in the country (about 120 000 inhabitants) it has many remarkable architectural monuments and a host of other art treasures.

Lisbon

The largest city in the country, spread over 7 hills, situated on the Atlantic Ocean, is blessed with her rio Tejo as one of themost beautiful cities in Europe.

Distance: by motorway in just under 2 hours.

Porto

In the north of the country this lively and important port and trading town lies on the banks of the Douro, the largest river in Portugal. Famous for its Port wine it is the second largest city in the country and has attractive tourist and cultural attractions.

Viseu

The old district capital, in the midst of the famous wine growing region of the Dão shines, boasts handsome houses and palaces of the Renaissance and the Baroque.  The narrow granite-paved streets and cozy corners have a special magic.

Buçaco National Park.

About 25 km northeast of Coimbra, on the northern slopes of the Serra do Buçaco,  is a National Park famous for the diversity of its plants and flowers (400 indigenous and 300 exotic plant

Batalha

This small town between Lisbon and Coimbra is home to one of the largest and most important monasteries in the country.

The “Mosteiro de Santa Maria da Vitoria” built in the 14th Century is a world cultural heritage site under UNESCO protection.  In the immediate vicinity there are some interesting limestone caves open to visitors.

Figueira da Foz

Because of its long and wide fine sandy beaches, this old port town is one of the most popular seaside resorts of Portugal’s west coast.

Serra da Estrela

The Serra da Estrela is the highest mountain range in the country (“Torre” 2000 meters above sea level) with bizarrely shaped rocks and ravines, beautiful forests, streams and lakes that contribute to the remarkable natural beauty of the area.
